My Happy Day.

So in honor of May 24th (my Happy Day) Kev took off work! A very happy wife I was. The day before he was very excited about this bread/birthday breakfast he wanted to make but it required a trip to Panera to get a loaf of country miche! So we took advantage of that trip:

A bagel for him and a muffin for me :) The next morning he got up and made a tasty breakfast, complete with chocolate chips and syrup all over it...very tasty! We decided that we would use our disposable camera to capture this monumentous day! (We bought this thing on the honyemoon when we thought we "lost" my camera, and haven't used it since) We started off the day with a trip to my beloved Yarbro's Antique Mall! I could spend hours in there and come out with absolutely nothing and be pretty ok with that. I love to just look at it all. We came upon this booth that had a toy chest. A wooden toy chest. Now I have been wanting some kind of trunk or chest since we got married. Most of the time they were just too expensive or I was just too cheap. But this beauty was only $30. The cashier couldn't even believe that it was only $30. I understand that many may not call this a beauty but I have high hopes for this chest!

It's not the prettiest trunk, but just wait until I get a hold of it with my other happy day presents:

Indeed, a staple gun and hand sander! I plan on sanding this puppy down and giving it a new coat! I told the cashier lady at the antique store that I was going to turn this into a coffee table, and I think I broke her heart a bit. She told me "You just can't find em' like that any more. We all just fell in love with it when they brought it in the other day." So there I stood feeling guilty. Looking like a destroyer rather than a restorer. When I got home I looked it up on the internet...And yes mam they do still make them just like that!! They are around $75 but they are still manufactured....I didn't feel as bad after that. So then we went to several other stores and I found some nifty picture frames that I'm wanting to use for a collage type thing in the bedroom.

After we shopped till we dropped, we went to Olive Garden for dinner. We both got the Four Cheese Pastachetti with Grilled Chicken, and tasty it was! My Happy day was great and I'm glad I got to spend it with my hubs. Can't wait to see our disposable camera pics and ready to start sanding tomorrow!

Breathing is Good

Done and Done! Junior year has come to an end and I feel like I can actually breathe now. It's been since last summer that I have had a break from school. I'm alive and kickin though :) I had six exams, three of which were standardized computer tests (ATI). Yes, scary indeed. I was mentally prepared for not passing at least one of my ATIs but much to my surprise I passed them all.. It was only by the grace of God that happened. Booyah!!! When I came home from my last exam, physically and mentally exhausted, I was greeted by a smiley hubby and this little happy:

So I can finally do all the crafts, sewing, cooking, and whatever else I want to do! I hope to keep up with my blogging too! (I have only posted once since having this for 4 months now, so I'm excited to start) It's my first free day and I'm thinking that a trip to the fabric store is due.

The other night I was complaining about wanting to graduate this Saturday. Kev trying to comfort me said "You only have 300 something more days left." He's so sweet.... But ONLY 300 something???? So then we started joking about a paper chain and how it would fill up the whole house. Being the topper dan than I am I said "Well I'm going to make one!" He responded with "Dare you!" So the challenge begins. This can't just be some ordinary chain. This has to be creative and well you know "off the chain." (Sorry for the cheese) My first thoughts are something with popsicle sticks or burlap strips. I just don't even know, but I'm up for any good dare! My noodle is churning with all kinds of ideas... Over and out!

The start of it all....

So here we go with the whole blog thing. We have had this for almost three months now, but couldn't figure out how to decorate the thing. I am not computer savy and we all know you can't put up some drabby blog up with no flare, but I think it's finally worth a post. I still haven't figured it all out yet, but I'm working on it.

I'm sucked in and totally obsessed with home decor blogs. Nursing school is only getting in the way of my true calling which is to decorate, embellish, sew, paint, and look for antiques. I think it would be a good career. Don't you?

In the midst of watching C-sections, talking to drug and alcohol addicts, doing mountains of paperwork, taking tests every week, Kev working full time and officiating soccer, and being happily married, we have snuck in a few little crafts. My study breaks along with Kev's precious time off work, we (or probably more so I) like to spruce up the apartment. My first project was about two months ago.  It was very simple, and I just love it!

We first went to the antique store and bought a platter that was $3. Luckily it already had an engraved like center to it so I didn't have to sand it down or anything. Then we bought chalkboard spray paint, which was not really what I was looking for! I looked everywhere for just regular paint, but I guess I was looking in all the wrong places because I never found it. So we settled for the messy spray paint. First, we taped off the edges of the platter, then I sprayed four coats of paint on it. We removed the tape, and had ourself an adorable little chalkboard to put on the kitchen counter!
